I’m a person of many capricious frames of mind. And one of the moods that I very rarely encounter is - trying to learn something new. But every time this disposition sets in, I go all in and do that until I don’t even want to think about doing it ever. So my recent endeavor, when I got the learning syndrome, was crocheting.

Crocheting was one of those crafts that always fascinated me and wanted to try myself someday but never really got the chance to. So basically I've been putting it off for quite some time now until recently when my dad talked about how interesting it is to watch people crochet and how almost everyone in his family knew the trade. That’s when my learning syndrome kicked in, again. Being absolutely new to this activity, I didn’t know much about the tools, or the types of yarn used to crochet or anything (fun fact - I believed crochet and knitting were the same all my life (what an idiot)).
Luckily, I had a wool yarn and a crochet needle handed over to me by my mom long ago so that I didn’t have to run to a local craft store to get one. I searched on YouTube for beginner-friendly crochet lessons and this series called ‘How to Crochet for Absolute Beginners’ by Sarah Jayne (Bella Coco) popped up and oh my god, let me tell you how much I enjoyed the series. She teaches at the right pace for someone who doesn’t even know how to hold the crochet needle – me (lol) and explains so well, be it the terms used in crocheting or how to “pull-through” without getting your needle stuck halfway in between the loops. I loved every single second of crocheting and I even found telling myself “Why the heck did I not take this up before”. The feeling was similar to Scrat finding his acorn. So since then, I haven't put down the crochet needle until yesterday when I ran out of yarn :(
This craft is absolutely amazing and I can’t wait to crochet more things, a muffler, a beanie, a baby jacket maybe, who knows! now that I transformed myself into a grandma (not that I already am one) who crochets while watching tv.
So if you are planning on taking up crocheting too, I would highly recommend you to check out Bella Coco on YouTube as she has got a ton of amazing videos on crocheting! And below, you can find the link to her channel and her video series for absolute beginners.
